But first, what is ‘transitional’? The very word is blurred in the fashion industry itself. So do not get too confused. All you have to do is buy just a few new pieces and style them with the pieces that already exist in your wardrobe. You may think that transitional dressing may make your outfits boring but you couldn’t be more wrong. It makes the work – life boundary more seamless and your wardrobe more trendy without breaking the bank.
However, transitional dressing isn’t restricted to AM to PM outfits. With trends constantly changing, keeping an up to date wardrobe can be difficult. At the risk of being banned from the fashion community, I got to be real, you can not always be following trends and copping the ‘in’ pieces every season. Summer to fall to winter, not knowing what to wear with the weather changes may be the most nerve wrecking thing in the morning before you have to rush out the door for your 9 a.m. meeting. But whatever the weather, these transitional staples are bound to ensure you make every moment a stylish one.
The key to transitional dressing is to purchase only a few pieces each season that can be worn with your current wardrobe!
You can never go wrong with a solid coloured t-shirt. Black and white are so versatile, you should invest in a new ones every other season. Pairing them with anything can be absolutely effortless. Opt for cotton or linen t-shirts to ensure they are appropriate across the seasons.
GROWN UP TAILORING
Owning a well tailored suit is surely a sign of being an adult. But adulting should not make your outfit boring. Even a well tailored blazer worn over a dress or a sweater can lift your outfit. I always opt for a grey checked blazer or a blush pink one so I have some timeless blazers with different fabric compositions.
I enjoy a good solid coloured slip dress. But have you noticed how you can lift your outfit with a little print too? I have been on the search for minimal printed slip dress that I can style in multiple ways. Weather it is with a turtleneck to wear under with ankle boots for the coming autumn or wearing a blazer over for a smart casual look.
You may never think of wearing your midi skirt while travelling to cold places. Having invested in midi skirts of late, I can not wait to share how I would style them with knee high boots and a pullover for the winter months when I travel. But living in Bombay, pretty one shoulder tops would do for now!
CHEAT TIP: Buy your seasonal staples in neutral colours i.e. shades of black, white and denim in order to create a timeless wardrobe
A pullover is an absolute seasonal favourite. Cute to pair with a short pleated skirt as well as leather leggings, an embellished pullover will get you through any season. Pick one in a beautiful black or millennial pink to go with anything.
STRAIGHT FIT JEANS
I have been shying away from skinny jeans lately and I couldn’t be happier. Straight fit jeans can make your ‘ootd’ selfie more stylish and in-trend. I would pair my straight fit jeans with everything, ranging from satin slips to a leather jacket with a white t-shirt under and of course, a denim shirt. Opt for a white or the classic mid-wash blue!
