Being backstage at a fashion show was nothing like I expected it to be. The designer didn’t have to order everyone, no model was rude to the dresser, and no person didn’t have a good time. Being a dresser at Ashish’s S/S16 show has, till date, probably been the most exciting experience in this industry.
It was so bizarre backstage but yet, it felt like home. I was so fascinated by the neon yellow and pink hair of this one employee. I was quite surprised that she could carry it off well. It looked so crazy yet chic. Creativity could be seen in every corner in not only the outfits but also the hair, make-up, etc. Everyone was calm and polite, nothing like the way this industry is labelled (bitchy and selfish). This was my first show backstage and I’ve never felt such warmth in the fashion industry before.
As you may have already noticed, I am a sucker for black and all dull clothes. But, for the first time, I felt absolutely in love with colourful shiny clothes. I admire the eccentricity of Ashish clothes and this season’s outfits made me fall in love with the work of this designer. From white sheer clothes with colourful sequins and pink corduroy pants to denim co-ord sets with heart cut outs, Ashish Gupta left no stone unturned to bring a collection to the fashion world which not only gave you the latest trends but also gave every outfit a personality.
The walk on the runway was so unexpected. The female models were skateboarding while the male models who were wearing slip dresses and heels were twerking and sprinkling glitter everywhere. This made the show super interesting for both, the staff backstage and the people watching the show ahead. It was unlike any other fashion show and it just proves that even the way the clothes are worn by the models make them look more appealing.
It take 6 months to prepare for a new season show, 5 hours before the show we assemble but those 15 minutes when the models walk down the ramp makes or breaks your brand. And the way I knew this show was a complete success is by the frenzy backstage right after it.
